Our Mission

Hey there,

I figured if you're here poking around our Mission page, you probably care about the why — not just the what. So let me lay it out, straight from the heart (and maybe just a little bit from the soapbox).

The whole reason //JON LOVES DOGS exists — the reason I started this company, the reason I make the choices I do, and the reason I obsess over the tiniest damn details — is simple:

We owe dogs (and cats!) more than we're giving them.

Humans created dogs. Literally. We selectively bred them over thousands of years to serve our needs — to hunt with us, guard us, herd for us, sit pretty next to our feet and make us feel like someone loves us even when we’re being kind of a mess. We engineered loyalty into them like it was a product feature. And now that we’re living our modern, self-sufficient, DoorDash-fueled lives, I’m watching society quietly push them to the sidelines.

In a lot of places — especially less-developed parts of the world — dogs are already being treated like pests. Left behind. Forgotten. Disposable.

That sits real wrong with me.

Because here’s the truth: Dogs didn’t ask to be shaped into what they are. We made them this way. Totally reliant on us. Fully dependent on human care and connection to survive. And now what — we just shrug and say, “Not my problem”?

Nah. Not on my watch.

I don’t think //JON LOVES DOGS is going to change the whole world. (I’m not that delusional.) But I do think we can change Essex County. Hell, maybe even Jersey. And every day, that’s the mission: raise the standard. Make life better for the animals we owe everything to.

That’s why I built this team. Why we train the way we do. Why I got Fear Free certified. Why I care about enrichment and behavior and body language and why I cry just a little bit every time I see a dog do the “happy wiggle.”

I’m not in this just to pay the bills. I’m in this because dogs deserve better — and I intend to give it to them. One walk, one visit, one happy tail wag at a time.

They give us unconditional loyalty.
It’s time we return the favor.
